Kansas City Royals: Offseason trade targets from NL West
By Cody Rickman
Arizona Diamondbacks
Kevin McCanna, RHP Pitcher
Kevin McCanna, the 25-year-old pitcher (26 in February), had a fantastic 2019 season at AA pitching 81.2 innings with a 2.09 ERA, 1.090 WHIP, and 92 Ks.
McCanna did an excellent job of limiting baserunners and the homerun ball. He has split time between starting and relieving in his minor league career with over 334.2 innings he has produced a 3.12 ERA, 1.171 WHIP, and 339 Ks.
McCanna throws an above average fastball that can reach up to 94-mph, but typically hovers around 89-92 mph. He has a plus sharp slider with mid-80s velocity and depth he throws abundantly. He also has a slightly above average changeup, an average curveball, and plus control.
McCanna was released from Houston Astros organization in 2016 and found himself in independent ball. His rise thru the Diamondbacks system has been a good story, but the organization has yet to add McCanna to their 40-man roster and they risk losing him in the Rule 5 draft this winter.
McCanna could be solid middle relief option at his peak.
