Boston Red Sox

Daniel McGrath, LHP Starting Pitcher

Daniel McGrath, the 25-year-old left-handed Australian pitcher, put up stunning numbers in AA for the Red Sox in 2019.

McGrath pitched 112.1 innings 1.68 ERA, 1.042 WHIP, with 113 Ks in AA and struggled in his two appearances at the AAA level in 2019. McGrath showed solid numbers in 89.1 innings at the AA level in 2018 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.399 WHIP, and 79 Ks.

McGrath is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this offseason and the Red Sox aren’t likely to add him to their 40-man roster to protect him this offseason. McGrath utilizes excellent command and sequencing of his mix of fringy stuff consisting of an 86-88 mph fastball, 80-82 mph slider, 75-77 mph curveball, and a 74-77 changeup to generate outs.

If McGrath is able to find a few more MPH on his fastball, he could be able to utilize his deceptive delivery to find success as a number five type starter or long reliever.
