Suddenly it’s gotten a little more interesting in the AFC West, as the KC Chiefs have dropped two straight games and are now just a game up on the second place Raiders and two games up on the third place Broncos and Chargers.

We should have known that the Kansas City Chiefs weren’t going to make things easy on the fans. It’d be too easy to put the AFC West teams out of their misery early on and just clinch it now, wouldn’t it? Instead, the Chiefs have decided to give us back-to-back stinkers (at home nonetheless) and now there’s a critical game coming up on Thursday against the Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs and Broncos have been opposites this season; Kansas City started 4-0 and have lost two straight while the Broncos started 0-4 and have won two games in a row. Both teams have a chance to make it three in a row for their streak and if that happens, Chiefs fans will certainly be smashing that panic button.

With the Raiders on a bye this week, we didn’t learn anything new about them, so it’ll just be three teams that we look at today, starting with the teams who lost.

WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE CHIEFS?

For once, we’re going to start with the Kansas City Chiefs. It appears the blueprint is out on how to beat the Chiefs and that’s RUN THE BALL. The Chiefs have no answer when it comes to stopping the run and that, in turn, allows the opposition to control the clock and dominate in the time of possession. It’s hard to win games when your opponent has the ball twice as long as you do.

Kansas City is a totally different team when Patrick Mahomes isn’t fully healthy. He looked good prior to re-injuring his ankle, but you could tell the difference once he tweaked that ankle again. This defense is bad enough as it is and when Mahomes isn’t healthy enough to bail them out, it gets ugly.

The Chiefs now have to travel to Denver on a short week and play on Thursday Night Football in front of a Broncos crowd that’s suddenly feeling a little bit better about their chances in this game.
