KC Chiefs: Five things to watch vs Houston Texans in week six
The Chiefs offensive line has to be better at doing their job.
This season, the Chiefs offensive line has allowed Patrick Mahomes to be hit 17 times, which ranks as the third most in the NFL. Although he has only been sacked a total of seven times, Mahomes has had to use his feet to get outside of the tackles and make plays on his own.
With a depleted line from injuries, KC must rely on the depth of their offensive line to step up and provide more protection with top pass rushers coming in. The loss of Eric Fisher and Andrew Wylie is beginning to show with more and more plays being busted and Mahomes ending up on the turf.
Houston will be headed by All-Pro Defensive End J.J. Watt and a top ten sack leader Whitney Mercilus. The Texans defense as a complete unit has a total of 15 sacks on the season. Things could get ugly fast in the trenches.
The Chiefs pass rush seems to be a recurring topic weekly among the Kingdom.
This season, the Chiefs pass rush has been a problem we see frequently. The Chiefs currently rank in the bottom half of the NFL in sacks with just 11 combined on defense. With the loss of Chris Jones and Xavier Williams to injury in the past week, getting to the quarterback this season is looking more and more of an uphill climb.
Luckily for the Chiefs, this week they are going up against an offensive line that has allowed 18 sacks this season, which puts them at fifth most in the league.
With multiple pass catching talents, getting in the backfield and disrupting plays will go a long way slowing down a high powered offense.
It should be showtime for Frank Clark!
