With a roster full of pending free agents and a quarterback extension on the horizon, a trade for Ramsey likely requires a massive extension.

At the conclusion of the 2019 season, Jalen Ramsey will have finished the first four years (the cheap years) of his rookie contract. After this year, it’s reasonable to assume Jalen Ramsey would require a contract extension, and a massive one at that. Ramsey may simply indicate he would require a new contract to a team that trades for him before he’s willing to show up.

This offseason, the Chiefs also face a decision on what to do with Chris Jones whose contract expires at the end of this season. And what are the Chiefs going to do with Patrick Mahomes and his pending massive, likely record setting contract extension that could be in excess of 200 million dollars?

Emerging receiver Demarcus Robinson is a free agent after this season along with cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland. Emanuel Ogbah also finds himself a free agent after this season.

In short, the Chiefs have a lot of issues to deal with in terms of contracts and who comes back next season. Surrendering a low cost draft pick and a slew of cap space for one player could make it problematic for the Chiefs to have the depth they need to truly compete long term in the AFC and hopefully Super Bowls
