The Kansas City Chiefs failed to address the cornerback position – a major position of need – in the offseason and likely can’t afford to pay the price at the deadline.

Entering the 2019 offseason, everyone and their brother knew the Kansas City Chiefs needed to address and upgrade their cornerback position grouping. You knew it, I knew it, the mailman knew, everyone. And yet, for a second offseason in a row, Brett Veach failed to address what is arguably the most important spot along the defense.

Outside of Bashaud Breeland, the Chiefs chose to enter the 2019 season with the same failing personnel that they walked off the Arrowhead field with after losing to New England in the AFC Championship Game last January.

Now, as the trade deadline approaches, there have been a slew of reports of a trade request from Jacksonville Jaguars superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The price tag has been rumored to be at least two first round draft picks. Perhaps more.

To that, and this really should be obvious but isn’t, the Chiefs under no circumstances should trade two first round picks for anything but a quarterback and they don’t need one of those. You don’t trade two first round picks for a corner. Period.

Let’s get into the other areas of this topic, starting with the cash.
