Kansas City Royals: Storylines to follow in 2019 offseason
OTHER TRADES
Aside from Whit Merrifield, the Royals might look to trade some of their other players as well. Danny Duffy and Ian Kennedy are the names to watch here, especially Kennedy, whose contract expires at the end of the 2020 season.
Kennedy emerged as a dominant closer in 2019, posting 30 saves and an ERA of 3.41. Teams looking for bullpen help might be interested in giving up a prospect or two in exchange for the expensive Royals closer.
Duffy is more of a wishful thinking trade piece, as he’s disappointed since signing an extension several years back. He’s consistently being linked to the Yankees as a potential trade piece for their struggling rotation, but that’s yet to come to fruition.
The Royals will surely make some other smaller trades and that’s always something to monitor in the offseason.
