Kansas City Chiefs: Prospects to keep an eye on in 2020 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
The Chiefs hope to find a solid corner prospect for a major position of need.
Kansas City is in a tough spot. They could really use a top shelf corner, but when you are good, it’s borderline impossible to find one and that player certainly isn’t going to be found in free agency this offseason and there really are no good options that make sense in a trade.
Expect the Chiefs to look to go more quality depth than top shelf, and if they can find a solid number two corner in free agency, bring back a Bashaud Breeland and/or Kendall Fuller, and then draft a projectable prospect such as Nevelle Clarke of Central Florida.
Clarke has been one of the top cornerbacks outside of the major conference prospects for two seasons now and has good size (listed at 6’1″). With as good as Central Florida has been the past couple of seasons, and the propensity of conference members to throw the ball on every down, he has seen his fair share of different pass routes and coverage schemes.
Clarke is a far better prospect than recent corner selections Rashad Fenton and Tremon Smith, and a player I’d expect capable of competing for playing time and contributing on defense.
