The KC Chiefs experienced their first loss of the season over the weekend. How did the rest of the AFC West fare in week five of the regular season?

Well, the Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated no more, as they lost on Sunday Night Football to the Colts. It was an embarrassing loss, but they still hold a one-game lead over the second place Raiders (weird) and hold the tiebreaker over Oakland as well.

The division went 2-2 this weekend and it was an odd weekend of sorts for the division, with every team defying the odds. The teams favored to win ended up losing and the teams expected to choke, wound up with victories. That’s the NFL for you.

Let’s take a look at what we learned about every AFC West team this weekend, starting with the two teams who lost.

WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE CHARGERS?

I honestly thought that most people who predicted the Los Angeles Chargers to not be as good this season were just being petty and bitter, but turns out, they might be onto something here. Sure, it’s still very early in the season, but the Bolts have already lost three games in 2019. They lost just four all of last year.

The Chargers looked flat on offense, failing to score a single point in their 13-20 loss to Denver. Philip Rivers aired it out 48 times and threw for just 211 yards and two interceptions. The run game didn’t do well at all, totaling just 35 yards on the ground off of 16 carries. Melvin Gordon made little to no impact, tallying 31 yards off 12 carries.

The lone Chargers touchdown on the day came on a Desmond King punt return for a touchdown. Otherwise, it was Chase McLaughlin who led the way on scoring, connecting on two field goals for the Bolts.

LA was gashed on the ground by the Broncos running attack, but they did get after Joe Flacco, sacking him thrice and holding him to under 200 yards passing.

It’s definitely safe to say that the Los Angeles Chargers have been one of the most disappointing teams to this point in the season. They’ll have a chance to get back to .500 next week on Sunday Night Football when the Steelers come to town with their likely third string quarterback.
