The Kansas City Chiefs announced that Tyreek Hill participated in practice on Wednesday for the first time since he was injured in week one against the Jaguars. As much as fans want to see Hill back, the Chiefs shouldn’t rush him.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense has been just fine without Tyreek Hill to this point of the season and that’s a big reason why the team shouldn’t rush in bringing the former WR1 back in week five against the Colts.

Hill has basically missed the entire season to this point (he had just two catches in week one and missed most of the game) and other receivers have stepped up in his absence. In week one, it was Sammy Watkins, who went for just shy of 200 yards and three touchdowns.

Week two was the Demarcus Robinson show, who went for over 170 yards and two scores. In weeks two and three, rookie Mecole Hardman got in on the action as well, displaying his speed and playmaking abilities.

While week four was a step down for the Chiefs wide receivers, Travis Kelce was still around to be his usual self. I wrote about how Kelce is having a quiet, but solid season, as he’s continued to do what makes him great even without Hill in the fold.

As the Chiefs look to battle the Colts on Sunday Night Football, some fans might feel like the team should push Hill out there. This doesn’t seem necessary against an iffy defense and at a home game in front of what should be a raucous crowd.

Kansas City has plenty of other talent at the position to fill in until Hill can return and there’s absolutely no need to rush the process. Watkins is due for a big game after having been invisible the past three weeks and Robinson and Hardman will look to turn things around after both having struggled in Detroit last weekend.

Yes, it’d be great to see Hill out there healthy and running routes, but if he’s not fully healthy, there’s no need to throw him on the gridiron just yet. Hill will be needed more in the later games this season when the games get bigger and the opponents get tougher, so for now, it doesn’t seem necessary to have him on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Time for Sammy Watkins to replicate that week one performance, only this time at Arrowhead Stadium in primetime!
