Kansas City Chiefs: First quarter report card for 2019
By Cullen Jekel
The Secondary
Kendall Fuller, Corner: A-
While he doesn’t have an interception, Fuller does lead the team in tackles (29) and tackles for loss (three) while collecting one sack and defending two passes. He’s had some trouble, yes, but 24-year-old is the team’s best cornerback, and he’s proving it.
Bashaud Breeland, Corner: B+

He’s been responsible for three takeaways: one interception and two fumble recoveries, one of which he took back 100 yards for a touchdown against the Lions. He’s defended three passes while collecting 14 combined tackles.
Charvarius Ward, Corner: B
Ward has one interception and one fumble recovery to go with 22 combined tackles with two passes defended. He, like the Chiefs secondary as a whole, has been fine.
Tyrann Mathieu, Safety: B
Signed away from Houston in the offseason for quite an amount of dough, Mathieu is still finding his feet in the defense. He came up with a sack against the Lions. On the year, he has 15 combined tackles. Though he has no interceptions, those will come.
Juan Thornhill, Safety: B-
The rookie out of Virginia has 15 tackles with one pass defended.
Daniel Sorensen, Safety: B-
The oldest of the bunch, the 29-year-old Sorensen played 29% of the snaps Sunday against the Lions, his highest amount of the season. He has one pass defended to go with four combined tackles on the year.
