The KC Chiefs played their worst game of the 2019 campaign and yet the team came out on top. What did we learn about the Chiefs in their victory over the Detroit Lions?

The Kansas City Chiefs struggled in all three phases and in years past, probably lose this game.  More on that one later though. The Lions took the Chiefs to the absolute limit. So what did we learn? Let’s run them down.

Okay, I am going to let you guys in on a little secret here. I normally start writing these things about halfway through the fourth quarter. This allows me to get it written and out in a timely manner.

In a game like this, that wasn’t going to happen because things can change on a whim. So needless to say, I hate games like this one. Here’s what we learned about both teams.

The Lions are going to be good

It takes a lot to make the KC Chiefs look silly, but the Lions managed to do it. The defense looked shades of last year and the special teams had some massive miscues that you just don’t see from a Dave Toub-led unit.

Detroit was playing with a massive chip on their shoulders after all the talk of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs being this offensive juggernaut. The Lions defense stymied the Chiefs offense that had looked unstoppable so far this season.

This was a massive step for Matt Patricia’s herd even in a loss. Could the NFC North champion come from Motor City? It is still a young season, but you don’t take it to some of the best teams in the NFL and not build off of it if you are a good team.
