LOSER: RUN DEFENSE

On the contrary, the run defense was really, really bad on Sunday, allowing Kerryon Johnson to rush for 125 yards and the Lions offense as a whole to tally 186 yards on the ground. Not good.

If the Chiefs have a big lead, it’s fine that their defense surrenders a lot of yards on the ground because it’s running time off the clock. In these tight games, however, the run defense can’t allow over 100 yards to one player. That’s unacceptable and could be something that plagues this team in big games.

LOSER: EVERYONE WHO FUMBLED

This game could have been a Chiefs blowout victory were it not for three costly fumbles that almost ended up costing Kansas City the game. Mecole Hardman, Sammy Watkins, and Darrel Williams all had bad fumbles that were recovered by the Lions, and while Detroit ended up fumbling on two of those possessions, they scored a touchdown on one of the extra possessions.

In close games, fumbling the football (or turning it over at all) won’t do you any good. The Lions clearly had a strategy of punching the football out whenever they could and it worked for most of the game. The Chiefs need to work on improving in this department or other teams will easily take notice and follow suit.
