Nebraska football is 2-1 on the season and hits the road for their first Big Ten match-up of the year this Saturday. It’ll be against the also 2-1 Fighting Illini of Illinois. What should Husker fans watch for in this one?

Conference play has arrived for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and their first opponent in Big Ten play is Illinois, who are usually near the bottom of the Big Ten West. Be that as it may, Illinois is always a sneaky team and this year is no exception, especially with the Huskers still being so up and down.

Both of these teams already have a loss on their resumé, as Nebraska fell to Colorado two weeks ago and the Fighting Illini lost to Eastern Michigan last week on a last second field goal by the Eagles. They’ll be motivated to turn things around and against a conference opponent nonetheless.

Let’s take a look at what to watch for this weekend when the Huskers take on the Fighting Illini in Champaign.

SLOW DOWN CORBIN

If there’s one non-quarterback on Illinois’ roster that could spell doom for the Cornhuskers, it’s running back Reggie Corbin, who rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries last weekend. Corbin is Illinois’ key to taking down Nebraska this weekend and he has the talent to carry the opposition to victory.

Last week Nebraska allowed just 74 yards on the ground, but it was to a non-Power 5 school in Northern Illinois. Plus, the Huskers got off to such a big lead that NIU was forced to pass for much of the second half.

If Reggie Corbin has a big game, the Fighting Illini have a chance to win this game.
