Lack of Pass Rush

The Chiefs made a bold decision in not retaining either Justin Houston or Dee Ford, releasing Houston and trading Ford. They gave up a first round pick for Frank Clark, who was double teamed much of last week in Jacksonville.

With Clark in town getting paid to be a threat to get after the quarterback and Chris Jones vying for a new contract, one would have expected the Chiefs pass rush to be all over a not so good Jaguars offensive line. That was not the case, as KC only notched one sack against the Jags.

A lot of eyeballs will be on Clark this weekend, as he had a dominant performance against Oakland’s Kolton Miller last year. Even with Miller not performing well in 2018, the Raiders didn’t give up a sack on Monday against what was apparently a good Broncos defensive front.

Can Clark replicate his performance against Miller from last year? Or will the pass rush barely sniff Derek Carr in week two? If it’s the latter, the Chiefs might have a tough time breaking away in this game.

Here’s what Fried had to say about Miller in year two of his pro campaign.

JG: “Kolton Miller is looking healthy and much-improved from what was a very poor rookie campaign. Truth be told, Miller was hampered by injuries for a lot of 2018 so it was difficult to gauge how effective he really was. But after a dominant Week 1 performance, Miller could be well on his way to a breakout season. For that reason, the hope is that he and Trent Brown could keep Clark and Emmanuel Ogbah at bay. However, the player that probably scares Raiders fans the most is Chris Jones. The Raiders are still without both of their starting guards so Jones could be an issue rushing from the interior.”
