Start of the Week – Wide Receiver D.J. Moore

Tampa Bay played San Francisco in week one and it was an ugly one. The Bucs had a dismal performance on the offensive side of the ball, but the defense was not as bad as anticipated.

The defensive line, with Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh, form a pretty stout run defense. San Francisco runners had 100 yards total on 22 carries. While those numbers look steady, Tevin Coleman went down with an injury and co-starter Matt Breida really struggled.

While Coleman and Breida are no Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers will struggle on the ground a bit against an underrated front. That’s music to D.J. Moore fantasy owners’ ears.

Cam Newton is going to drop back a lot in this game against a sub-par secondary. Though Jimmy Garoppolo did not exactly light them up in week one with 166 passing yards and a pick, it remains to be seen if that can be repeated.

There is reason to be pessimistic with Vernon Hargreaves as the most popular man in the back end of the defense. Carolina is much better than San Francisco and it will show. Both teams need a bounce back week early in the season and the better team should come out on top. The best guess is Carolina, with the proven track record and somehow less erratic quarterback.

D.J. Moore was somewhat of a mystery in fantasy coming into the season and there was even talk of Curtis Samuel consuming the number one receiver role that Devin Funchess left behind. While that was a possibility, Moore had 76 yards on seven catches and ten targets to Samuel’s 32 yards on 3 catches and only four targets.

While this is just week one, it did look like Moore was the number one guy and the superior fantasy asset. He will go off in week two against the Bucs and he needs to be in all lineups.
