The Kansas City Royals will enter the 2020 coming in off of back-to-back 90+ loss seasons. The Royals are getting close to putting together a competitive team. Here are five prospects who can help the team in 2020.

Things should start to get better for the Kansas City Royals in the coming years. These five prospects should be able to help the team next year.

Brady Singer – RHP Starting Pitcher

(6’5”, 23-years-old, drafted in 2018 out of the University of Florida)

  • 2019 Stats (2 levels – A+ Wilmington and AA Northwest Arkansas)
  • 2.85 ERA, 1.187 WHIP, 138 Ks, 39 BBs, 9 HRs allowed in 148.1 Innings

Considered to be one of top college pitchers in the 2018 entry draft, Brady Singer slipped to the Kansas City Royals picking at 18th. Who knows the exact reason for the slide, but Singer is seen as a very competitive pitcher on the mound who isn’t afraid to show his emotions.

This personality could backfire for clubhouse if teammates are rubbed the wrong way. Personally, I would love to have a teammate like Singer who gives everything he’s got for every start. He’s got a bulldog mentality and strives to win above everything else. He was one of the most polished pitchers in the 2018 and was expected to rise thru the Royals farm system quickly.

Singer’s arsenal consists of an above average fastball (low 90s mph typically, tops out at 96 mph) with nice ride to induce groundballs, a plus slider, and an above average change-up. Watching video on Singer, you can see he gets on top of the ball thru his 3/4 release allowing him to have command of pitches low in the zone. Singer will benefit having a good defense behind him since he is more of pitch to contact type of pitcher.

Expectations – Singer could be a candidate to make the Royals roster out of Spring Training. If not expect Singer to start back at AA Northwest Arkansas and move up to AAA shortly after if he continues his success at the level.

The Royals like to keep their prospects together in the minors so they get experience winning and playing together. If none of the Royals’ pitching prospects make the team out of spring training, I fully expect the Royals to stock the AA Northwest Arkansas rotation with their pitching phenoms.

If everything goes right for Singer in 2020, the Royals could make a 40-man roster move in Spring Training and he starts on the Royals roster progressing towards his ceiling of being a #2/3 type starting pitcher.
