BOLD PREDICTION #4

PATRICK MAHOMES WILL NOT REGRESS

Almost everyone we’ve heard since last year’s AFC Championship game has said the alleged inevitable, which is that Patrick Mahomes cannot keep up the historic standard he set last year.

Why not?

Kansas City is still loaded with weapons, arguably more than last season. There is no Kareem Hunt, but Damien Williams has showcased his ability and Darwin Thompson has flashed. Mecole Hardman will be utilized and put in the right positions by the play-calling wizard. Add in a healthy Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill, and there’s no reason to assume a statistically regression, let alone a winning disparity.

The argument against this is that defenses will figure Mahomes out more in his second year. That is certainly debatable, but let’s bank on Mahomes getting better once he turns 24 in September. Here’s to hoping he’s a special player with the innate ability to adapt to defenses as they prepare for him.

Let’s not put a ceiling on a guy that has shown time and again that he will drop our jaws. If he can stay healthy with the offensive line reloaded, there shouldn’t be a reason to believe he can’t repeat last year’s MVP season and win a second straight Most Valuable Player title.
