BOLD PREDICTION #3

NEW ADDITIONS ON DEFENSE WON’T MAKE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE

There are very few defensive juggernauts that turn the needle for a unit. Tyrann Mathieu and Frank Clark will be very good additions to a very weak Chiefs defensive team, but they will not be enough to flip the narrative.

The Chiefs defense will be better, but they couldn’t get any worse than what we saw a season ago. The Honey Badger will make many plays and Clark will wreak havoc along the line. Their skill set will be much appreciated, but it doesn’t change the fact that Steve Spagnuolo will be counting on a leap from Tanoh Kpassagnon and sub-par linebackers to stop the run.

Not to mention the secondary, besides Mathieu, arguably did not improve. Bashaud Breeland was graded as 58.5 from Pro Football Focus last year; Meanwhile Steven Nelson was graded as 73.9. Granted, Breeland only played in eight games with the Packers last year, but the comparison is notable after Nelson’s departure.

Hopefully, Charvarius Ward and the suspended Morris Claiborne can be serviceable at the corner position with Breeland staying healthy and stabilizing the group a bit.
