Mizzou Football: Three toughest games on 2019 schedule
By Cullen Jekel
Toughest Game No. 1
Week 11 at Georgia Bulldogs
Yikes.
If the Missouri Tigers were to win this game, it would be a MAJOR–that’s right, I broke out all caps–upset, and it would ripple through the college football landscape. A win on the road against a team that is currently ranked No. 3 in the AP that has been in the hunt for the national championship each of the past several seasons?
Yeah–that qualifies as a major upset.
Don’t count on it.
The Georgia Bulldogs are stacked. They have a solid, experienced quarterback, a daunting offensive line, numerous offensive playmakers, and a defense that’s the envy of all but two other FBS schools. Led by one of the best young head coaches in the NCAA, Kirby Smart, the Bulldogs just have too much firepower for Mizzou to stand a chance.
And for that reason, this is the toughest game on the Missouri Tigers’ 2019 schedule.
Tiger to Shine: Kelly Bryant, Quarterback
Let’s be real: if the Tigers win this game it’s going to be because of some outstanding play from the most important player on the field. Bryant, the former Clemson Tigers quarterback, is certainly capable of that. There’s no time like this Week 11 game to show that he’s still got what made him one of the most dynamic players in college football just two seasons ago.
For Mizzou to have any chance at winning this game, Bryant needs to have the game of his life.
Bulldog to Fear: Um…All of Them?
Seriously, this is a team filled to the brink with talent. There’s no weak point. Even their kicker is a rock star. Jake Fromm, the team’s starting quarterback, could very well be a first-round draft pick next April. Then there’s left tackle Andrew Thomas–bank on him going in the first round. Running back D’Andre Swift could be the first running back selected. And that’s just the offense!
On defense, the line is loaded with the likes of Julian Rochester and Jordan Davis while the linebacking corps includes dudes such as Monty Rice and Tae Crowder while J.R. Reed and Tyson Campbell lead a stellar group of defensive backs.
To reiterate: yikes.
