The KC Chiefs’ fourth preseason game ended in a disappointing third straight loss. The Chiefs weren’t able to end on a high note with a win as they would’ve liked, but there were still some positive takeaways from the game.

The fourth preseason game may not be important to the casual Kansas City Chiefs fan, but it is important to players fighting for that final roster spot. For some players, this will be their last game in an NFL uniform and for others, they have an opportunity to earn themselves a roster spot or even a spot on the practice squad.

Players playing in the game, no matter how meaningless it seems, are playing as if their careers are on the line because well, it could be. Because of the constant effort put forth by the players in the game, it does make for some exciting football.

But for those who decided to skip out on watching this game, here are five takeaways from the final week of the preseason.

1. Carlos Hyde’s roster spot is legitimately in danger

Carlos Hyde played pretty well when he was in the game early on. So while this may sound like a good thing at first glance, it’s not. Hyde playing much of the first half of the fourth preseason game is not a good sign no matter how good he looked.

It’s safe to say that Hyde is at, very best, the fourth running back on the depth chart and he didn’t do enough to in preseason week four to boost his position on the depth chart. In fact, he was actually even outperformed by undrafted rookie free agent Marcus Marshall.

Marcus Marshall managed 59 yards on 14 carries including a tough fourth-down conversion in the third quarter. Hyde managed just 29 yards on eight carries. Hyde is on the roster bubble and a trade or cut in the coming days would not be surprising.
