Greatest scorers in Kansas basketball history: 14. Andrew Wiggins

I get it. I do.

Andrew Wiggins entered into what would be his lone season in Lawrence with sky-high expectations. The Canadian, nicknamed “Maple Jordan” for his athleticism, had been billed as the best high school prospect since LeBron James for a couple of seasons while still in the prep ranks.

He was supposed to dominate for one year in college before going on to become the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.

Wiggins did two of those things, leaving after one year and being selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal for Kevin Love – but he didn’t dominate.

His tenure at KU is looked at with mixed feelings yet, putting high expectations aside, he knew how to score the ball.

Wiggins led the Jayhawks with 17.1 points per game and eclipsed the 20-point plateau in 11 contests, headlined by the 41 points he dropped in the regular-season finale against West Virginia.

Wiggins showed off his full offensive repertoire in that victory. He broke down opposing defenders off the dribble, blew past them with his quickness, got to the rim with his superior leaping ability and even made a couple of shots from the perimeter.

His ability to do all of those things made him special. What made him frustrating was how inconsistent he was in putting it all together. Still, his production and ability are enough for him to make this list.
