The KC Chiefs only scored one touchdown in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in week two of the preseason. What players should we watch for in week three against the San Francisco 49ers?

Well, last week’s game in Pittsburgh was a bit of a dud for the Kansas City Chiefs, but at least it’s only preseason, right? Plus, there are two more preseason games remaining to try and get last week’s stinker out of our memories.

The Chiefs return home for week three in what will be the last game at Arrowhead Stadium until week three of the regular season (September 22nd to be exact), so get your fill now, folks. It’ll be nearly a month before we see the good guys on our home turf again.

Anyway, with this being the final glimpse of the Chiefs we’ll see in Kansas City for nearly a month, which players should Chiefs Kingdom be keeping an eye on against the San Francisco 49ers? Let’s take a look, starting with a familiar face who just rejoined the team earlier this week.

DE’ANTHONY THOMAS

It feels appropriate to start with De’Anthony Thomas since he just rejoined the team earlier this week. Thomas never really transformed into what the Chiefs were hoping he’d be when they took him in the fourth round in the 2014 draft.

Now, however, Thomas is being given yet another chance to maybe develop into a threat on special teams. That’s likely where Thomas gets his audition at is on special teams as a return man. He’d still be listed as a receiver on the team, but returning kicks/punts would be his main task.

I wrote a few days ago about how I’m not sold on Thomas being a sure thing to make the roster. He’ll need some really good performances over the next two weeks in order to make a big enough impression on the coaching staff and to swipe a spot on the 53-man roster.

His experience with the team, however, definitely works in his favor and he could edge out some other guys who were having good summers.
