HERB MILLER III

A rookie out of Florida Atlantic, Herb Miller III has been a pleasant surprise for the Kansas City Chiefs. Herb Miller has taken the long route to getting onto this 2019 Chiefs squad starting back to rookie mini camp as a tryout.

With thin depth at the cornerback position, Miller has provided the Chiefs a chance to build from his current skills. Coming in as a rookie who played college ball in a non-Power 5 conference, Miller has shown that the level of competition has not been a game of catch for him. In his first two weeks of action during the preseason, Herb Miller has six tackles, two deflections, one interception, and a forced fumble.

His most noticeable play came in week two of the preseason against the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the first quarter, while being in with the ones on defense, Miller forced a fumble. The Steelers receiver ran a short seven-yard hitch route in which the ball was thrown. Miller, playing a little bit more of soft coverage, made a break on the receiver, punching the ball out before spinning the player to the ground allowing his teammate (Damien Wilson) to recover the ball.

While still going to be a little more of a work in progress, Miller has shown that he belongs in this league. Learning the speed of the game has not been a problem and he is progressing as a better secondary player for the defense each week.
