Jimmie Ward (San Francisco 49ers), Free Safety

Jimmy Ward has been a Swiss army knife on the defensive side of the ball for San Francisco. Although he is labeled as a safety, Jimmie Ward can move around from position to position on defense. A potential weapon for new Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, he would be able to plug and play where he is needed.

While the 49ers are a team starting to trend up, cutting ties with a guy like Ward may not be a bad thing. With guys like Richard Sherman and K’Waun Williams ahead of him and new guys to bolster their pass rush, former Chief Dee Ford and second overall pick in Nick Bosa, to aid their defense, Jimmie Ward becomes a more expendable player.

Entering his sixth season with the 49ers, Ward has only one full season under his belt. From 2014 to 2018 he has only played one complete season (2015) without being placed on the leagues injured reserve list. While not being good trading for an injury prone player, it could bring down the price tag for acquiring him.

A trade for Jimmie Ward may look something close to this:

San Francisco Receives:

  • Mid to Late Draft Pick (2020)
  • Comp Pick (2020)

Kansas City Receives:

  • Jimmie Ward
