We’re halfway through the preseason and there are still some holes the Kansas City Chiefs might opt to fill via a trade. Here are six trades the Chiefs should consider before the regular season kicks off.

The 2019 NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs is off and running with the first weeks of camp underway. Like every yea,  there is going to be player that will fall to injury and give other guys a chance to step up and become the next household name on the team.

When it comes to the Chiefs this season, most will see it as a Super Bowl or bust kind of season. The Chiefs will be looking to hit the ground running this year and while developing players over a year or two may still be in play, having a guy you know can get the job done right now will be a huge boost to the team.

Here are a few players the Chiefs should consider trading for, including a potential long shot.

Patrick Peterson (Arizona Cardinals), Cornerback

This choice should come as a shock to no one as there have been constant rumors swirling all off-season of Patrick Peterson coming to Kansas City, though they’ve cooled off as of late.

Peterson is a former teammate of now starting safety Tyrann Mathieu and would be a huge upgrade to the Chiefs secondary. While Peterson is suspended for the first six weeks of the season, bringing him in week seven would be a huge boost to this defensive unit.

Drafted in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft, Peterson has made a name for himself since entering the league. Being named to the top 100 players every year since his rookie season, Peterson has accumulating multiple accolades along the road. Throughout his career he has over 20 interceptions and 70 pass deflections so his play-making abilities come without question.

With Arizona in the early stages of a rebuild the team may be looking to offload some of their veteran players and heavy contracts. Having drafted rookie corner out of Washington (Byron Murphy), trading off Patrick Peterson could be a good start for the Cardinals.

Peterson would bring Arizona a hefty return in which they could get multiple top draft picks and/or a potentially talented position player as well.

A potential trade with the Chiefs could look something close to this:

Arizona Receives:

  • 2nd round Draft Pick (2020)
  • 4th Round Draft Pick (2020)
  • Potential high to mid round pick in 2021

Kansas City Receives:

  • Patrick Peterson
  • Potential mid to late pick in 2020 or 2021
