KC Chiefs: Three position battle takeaways from preseason game two

Wide Receiver position battle
The wide receiver position potentially took a very unfortunate turn during the second preseason game. Marcus Kemp, who had really been gaining steam as of late and was looking like a player who was pretty likely to make 53-man the roster, suffered a knee injury, which could end his chances at the 53-man roster.
As of the writing of this article, there has been no announcement of the severity, but an MRI is scheduled. If the MRI comes back negative, Kemp will likely be out of the 53-man roster conversation and even if it doesn’t come back negative but he has to miss significant time, that could still hurt his odds.
Now on to the positive development during the second preseason game.
Cody Thompson looked great. He ended up with seven receptions for 69 yards and was Chase Litton‘s go-to target in crunch time toward the end of the game. He actually ran by a defender late in the game and could have had a huge touchdown, but Litton slightly overthrew him.
If Kemp does turn out to be hurt, Thompson picked a good time to have a great game. The Toledo product has great hands, is a solid route runner, and can play on special teams, so Cody Thompson might have just propelled himself into the 53-man roster conversation.
Also, props to Mecole Hardman for having the only touchdown of the game and his second touchdown in as many games.
