FANTASY FOOTBALL RUNNING BACKS TO TARGET IN 2019
NUMBER 6 – TODD GURLEY
Ranking Todd Gurley sixth has everything to due with the his bizarre finish to the 2018 season and its lingering questions.
Through the Los Angeles Rams’ first 12 games last year, Gurley was a true 1-1 fantasy draft pick: he had rushed for over 100 yards on six different occasions, even topping 200 yards against the Broncos (lol), while scoring 15 rushing touchdowns to go with 46 receptions for 474 yards and another four receiving touchdowns.
After that, though, he slowed down considerably in the final two regular season games in which he played before sitting out Weeks 16 and 17. Then, in the playoffs, he thrashed Dallas for 115 yards rushing before rushing for a total of only 45 yards on just 14 carries against New Orleans in the NFC Championship Game and New England in the Super Bowl.
What’s the deal? It’s evidently arthritis in his left knee. If that’s the case, then Gurley could certainly have bust potential in 2019. However, Gurley himself is beating the drum that this injury is “small.”
The truth, and, more importantly, how it affects Gurley, won’t be known until after fantasy drafts conclude. Due to this uncertainty, Gurley falls out of the Top Five. Still, he’s worthy of a mid-first-round pick.
