The start of a new season often brings with it some veterans who are asked to find work elsewhere. Who are some players on the Kansas City Chiefs whose roster spots could be in doubt?

Every year, we find veterans finding new teams before or on cut down day. A player perhaps entering training camp as a starter now finds themselves out of a job. Did injuries impact the ability to find the field? Maybe the new player is cheaper and helps the Kansas City Chiefs save money against the salary cap.

There will be some veteran players on the Chiefs team who fans are all anticipating making the final 53-man roster that for whatever reason don’t. Who are a couple of players that maybe don’t fit the bit?

I’m not saying these next four players are certainly, for sure gone. Simply, these are players whose ‘seat’ potentially is or should be warmer than fans are anticipating or would like.

DORIAN O’DANIEL

Being on the field at the end of the first preseason game is a bad omen for the second year linebacker.

Dorian O’Daniel was a player many were anticipating taking a step forward when the 2018 season concluded. Despite limited playing time on defense, he had moments of hope and there was optimism that more was to come for the Clemson product.

Initially the Chiefs trading for Darron Lee from the Jets was looked at simply as nothing more than depth. After a disappointing start to his career in New York, Lee could potentially provide depth for the Chiefs linebackers corp this year. In free agency, the Chiefs signed Damien Wilson formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, which is good depth at the position.

Now, O’Daniel finds himself on the field in the waning moments of the first preseason game. When a vast majority of the players on the field likely are not going to find themselves on the final roster, there was O’Daniel, looking longingly at a Bengals running back scampering wide open into the end zone. Maybe that wasn’t O’Daniel’s job to cover that guy, maybe it was.

Where does O’Daniel fit if he truly finds himself behind Wilson and Lee amongst the rest of the roster? The 2018 draft class is developing into a dumpster fire and the apparently lack of development by O’Daniel highlights those issues.

If Dorian O’Daniel can’t climb the depth chart quickly, he may find himself looking for employment with a new team.
