After an over six months hiatus of no football, the Kansas City Chiefs opened up their season on with their first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. There was a lot to be unpacked about the roster during Saturday’s action.

The main purpose of the preseason is to help coaches and general managers further evaluate their players in a live game situation to aid them in their decision-making of which players will make the Chiefs 2019 roster. Some players have already pretty safely secured a roster spot while others are long shots or in a tight battle for one of the final roster spots.

Only the top 53 players will have the privilege of being a part of the Chiefs active roster in week one. So with only four preseason games and some practices between now and the regular season, this is a good time to see which players are playing good enough to deserve a roster spot and to see how positional battles are shaping up.

Saturday definitely gave Chiefs fans an idea of one position group competition that is pretty close to wrapping up and a few other position battles that are just starting to heat up (or other positions like wide receiver that didn’t change much during the game).

In this article, we will take an updated look at how some of the position battles are looking after the first preseason game including the tight end, running back, and defensive back position groups.
