CAM NEWTON – MVP IN 2015

Before his shoulder was completely banged up, Cam Newton was quite the quarterback (and still is to some capacity). His 2015 campaign was an incredible one, as he threw for 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while also rushing for 636 yards and a whopping ten touchdowns.

The Panthers only lost one game in that 2015 season and found themselves in their first Super Bowl in nearly 15 years. Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, the Panthers lost to Denver because Newton didn’t land on the fumble.

Anyway, despite the loss in the biggest game in sports, Newton won the Most Valuable Player award for the 2015 season. His follow-up season, however, was arguably one of the most disappointing for a reigning MVP candidate.

Newton threw for 3,509 yards and only 19 touchdowns in 2016, though he did limit his interceptions to 14 (one down from his MVP season). He rushed for 359 yards and five touchdowns, but Carolina went 6-8 under Newton and missed the playoffs.

Cam Newton is the only player listed here who won MVP and then his team missed the postseason in the follow-up campaign.
