ADRIAN PETERSON – MVP IN 2012

Twelve of the last 15 MVP titles have gone to a quarterback. The other three have been awarded to running backs with the last one coming in 2012 to then-Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

It was a well-deserved title for Peterson that year, as the Vikings sensation rushed for 2,097 yards  and 12 touchdowns. HE RUSHED FOR OVER 2,000 YARDS IN A SINGLE SEASON. That’s insane!

Peterson bringing home the award wasn’t surprising and the fact that he was able to beat out a quarterback for the prestigious prize, shows just how dominant he was in that 2012 season. Was AD able to follow that season up with another terrific one?

The answer is yes, but it’s hard to top a 2,000+ yard campaign. Peterson totaled 1,266 yards and ten touchdowns in the 2013 season, which are still great numbers. So while yes, Peterson did see a dip in numbers, they’re still GREAT numbers for a running back.

He’s still the last running back to have won the MVP award too, which shows how truly difficult it is for anyone other than a quarterback to be named Most Valuable Player.
