PEYTON MANNING – MVP IN 2009

Before he was tormenting Chiefs Kingdom as the quarterback of the Denver Broncos, Peyton Manning was tormenting Chiefs Kingdom as the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. No seriously. He lost two games to the Chiefs during his 18-year career. TWO.

But anyway. Manning was a five-time MVP winner and we’ll touch on two of those in this post. For this entry, it’s all about how he did in 2010 after winning it in 2009.

In 2009, Manning was coming off an MVP season. He went on to lead the Colts to a 14-2 record while throwing for 4,500 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. While the Colts would ultimately fall to the New Orleans Saints in that year’s Super Bowl, Manning still won the coveted award and definitely deserved it.

So, how did The Sheriff follow up his fourth MVP title?

Well, in 2010, Manning had just as good of a season. He threw for 4,700 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions, but Indy finished the year at 10-6 rather than 14-2 and that was probably a large part in why he didn’t repeat as the MVP.

Peyton Manning was someone who was always in the running to win MVP, so his numbers not dropping off too much isn’t shocking. He was the last player to win the prestigious title in back-to-back seasons.
