The KC Chiefs finally had one of their own win the MVP award this past year – Patrick Mahomes – and plenty of people more than expect him to back up his title with a second consecutive MVP title. How did previous winners do the next year?

The Kansas City Chiefs had never had an MVP winner on their team in the history of their franchise. That changed when Patrick Mahomes took over the quarterbacking duties last year and threw for 50 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards. He earned that sucker!

While Mahomes should put up respectable numbers again in 2019, it’ll be tough for him to replicate those numbers and win a second straight MVP title. The last repeat MVP was Peyton Manning in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, which goes to show it’s no easy task to be the league’s Most Valuable Player.

To get somewhat of a sample size for what Mahomes has in store this year, I thought I’d look back at how past MVP winners did in the year following their title season. This doesn’t mean Mahomes will pan out like any of these past winners, but for the time being, let’s just have some fun with it.

Here are the last ten MVPs prior to Mahomes:

We’ll look at each of the seasons for these players after they won the MVP and how they did, starting with Peyton Manning in the 2010 season. Let’s get to it.
