Clemson’s A.J. Terrell could be an ideal fit for the Chiefs as an outside cornerback in 2020 if he’s still on board.

With Clemson product Mark Fields currently competing for a roster spot with the Chiefs and Trayvon Mullen, a Raider selected in the second round, Terrell is the last remaining piece of the Clemson defensive backfield that helped lead the Tigers to the 2019 National Championship, punctuated by an A.J. Terrell pick six.

With good size at 6’2″ and 190 pounds, Terrell posses both the athleticism to play on the outside in man defense, but also the size to play zone and help stop the run. He beat out Fields for a starting spot on the Clemson defense and was perhaps one of the best defensive backs on the field during the National Championship game.

In a deep cornerback grouping, does A.J. Terrell make sense for the Chiefs if he’s on the board in the 2020 draft?

It will be interesting to see what happens with Terrell now that he’s the top cornerback on the Clemson roster. Will offenses avoid throwing his way? Could a lack of ‘highlights’ or stats as a junior hinder his ability to go early in the draft, leading for him to be on the board for the Chiefs?
