FANTASY FOOTBALL SLEEPERS TO TARGET IN 2019

NUMBER 6 – DEREK CARR

This one is tough guys. I almost couldn’t bring myself to type this portion up. Talking good about the Raiders is always like eating dirt; tough to do and it always leaves a bad taste in your mouth. But here we are, and it is time to recognize that the Raiders have done some nice things in the offseason, especially on the offensive side of the ball (GASP!)

There hasn’t been a team that has helped their quarterback more in the offseason than the Oakland Raiders. They gave offensive tackle Duane Brown a blank check to sure up the line, traded for superstar wide receiver Antonio Brown, poached Tyrell Williams from the Chargers, and drafted top rated running back Josh Jacobs in the first round. Talk about an upgrade.

The fact that Carr is my biggest quarterback sleeper has less to do with him as a player and more to do with these new additions on offense. Carr is a good, but not great quarterback. I always thought he was over hyped during his stretch in 2016 where he led the Raiders to a 12-3 record, but he was unfairly blamed when the team struggled over the last few years.

Another thing to consider is Derek Carr isn’t even on the radar of most people in their drafts. He has an ADP of #173 and is ranked as the #23 fantasy quarterback. This means he will be available late, and that if you want to get bold, you can ignore quarterback early.

Antonio Brown fantasy owners should add extra consideration to drafting Carr. Stock up on talent at other positions early, and grab Carr late and watch him benefit off of all the offensive talent surrounded around him. Don’t be surprised if he finishes as a top 12 quarterback and adds immense value to your fantasy team.

Recommended Target Draft Range: Round 13-15
