The 2019 Players Weekend uniforms were revealed and they are… not good. While the Kansas City Royals didn’t come up with the design, the jerseys are still blah.

Players Weekend has become a fun tradition over the past few seasons in Major League Baseball. Not only is it a chance for the players to get creative and come up with cool/funny nicknames, but it gives the fan base a chance to see their favorite players in cool new attire. The previous two uniform designs for the Kansas City Royals were pretty cool too, but that’s not the case this year.

Rather than give every team a unique look for Players Weekend, someone on Twitter joked that it’s almost as if someone forgot they had to design something for this and thought, “Let’s just make them all white and all black uniforms! That’ll look cool!”

Narrator: It did not look cool.

As mentioned above, this was beyond the Kansas City Royals’ control, but it’s disappointing that the team won’t be able to rock different shades of blue on Players Weekend. Last year they had a jersey with two different shades of blue on it (one dark, one light).

They truly were the boys in blue when donning those unis. This time around, the boys in blue will be the boys in… white?

Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

I’m all for mixing up the uniforms, but these do nothing for me and the early reaction on social media isn’t positive. The point of Players Weekend is for the players to show their individuality with different nicknames and the team wearing unique jerseys.

Instead – This year 15 other teams will have the same uniforms on. That doesn’t seem all that unique at all.

Hopefully the Royals give us some cool nicknames over Players Weekend to draw up some interest (because we know the product on the field isn’t great). Otherwise it’ll just be another weekend of watching bad Royals baseball, only this time they’ll look like the Backstreet Boys in the “I Want It That Way” music video.

I’m as big a Backstreet Boys fan as there is and even I don’t need to see the Royals looking like them for a weekend series.

What do you think of these uniforms, Royals fans?  Are they as disappointing to you as most people find them to be or would you consider buying them?
