November: Kansas State, OPEN, at Oklahoma State, at Iowa State, Baylor

What the–

The Kansas Jayhawks entering November just a win shy away from being eligible for a bowl game? Malarkey!

Yet here we are, and November’s slate of games provides a couple of contests that the Jayhawks could win to secure that elusive bowl bid. Imagine how happy Les Miles, grass connoisseur and movie star, would be if that happened during his first season on campus.

  • The first of the November games is the in-state rivalry against the Kansas State Wildcats, a team I’ll write about more in a couple of days. Like the Jayhawks, the Wildcats also have a new head coach, but he comes from the lower ranks of college football. Still, Chris Klieman is the perfect fit for Kansas State, and he and the Wildcats will take this first of several Sunflower Showdowns against Miles’ Jayhawks.

On November 9th, Kansas gets another open week to rest up before two straight road games, an occasion that happens just once all season. The first of those away games comes in Stillwater against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The second comes up in Ames against the Iowa State Cyclones. The Jayhawks will lose both, making the final game of the regular season all that more important.

For bowl eligibility, Kansas must defeat the Baylor Bears at home on November 30th. There is, of course, a strong possibility the Jayhawks win this game. But the Bears will be hungry, too, as they will enter this match-up with an identical record as the Jayhawks, at 5-6 (2-6).

I’m picking Kansas’ woes to continue, though, and for them to ultimately go 0-4 in the month of November. Once this team starts to slide, it will be tough to halt things, especially after three straight losses after two solid months to begin the season.

    Kansas Record: 5-7 (2-7)
