Fantasy Football: Top 15 Defenses and Special Teams to Target in 2019
By Shade Piper
FANTASY FOOTBALL DEFENSES/SPECIAL TEAMS TO TARGET
Number 8 – New England Patriots
2018 Fantasy Points Ranking: 4th
2018 Points Allowed Ranking: 7th
For the most part, the Patriots rarely have an exciting defense, but they always have a solid one and there aren’t fantasy points for excitement. The Patriots defenses typically rely on a “bend, don’t break” plan, which keeps teams out of the end zone. This is displayed well with their 21st ranking in yards allowed, but seventh in points allowed last year.
For fantasy purposes, teams aren’t penalized for giving up a bunch of yards, but they are for points, so this makes the Patriots a pretty good option for fantasy. They ended up finishing fourth in D/ST fantasy points last season and this has a lot to do with not giving up points.
The Patriots lost Trey Flowers and Malcom Brown in free agency, but in typical Patriots fashion, they added guys like Michael Bennett and Jamie Collins to continue to be the model of consistency in the NFL.
Bennett will be a great addition to this defense and Collins has a chance to make an impact as well, so don’t expect too much movement from this defense. They are pretty much a lock to be a top ten fantasy defense.
