Fantasy Football: Top 15 Defenses and Special Teams to Target in 2019
By Shade Piper
FANTASY FOOTBALL DEFENSES/SPECIAL TEAMS TO TARGET
Number 2 – Jacksonville Jaguars
2018 Fantasy Points Ranking: Tied-14th
2018 Points Allowed Ranking: Tied-4th
The Jaguars as a whole underperformed last season, which really made it even seem like the defense underperformed. If you look at the numbers, they were fifth in yards allowed and tied for fourth in points allowed. That’s not bad at all, but the Jaguars have the talent to be first or second in both of those categories this season.
The Jaguars have a few tough losses that they will have to overcome next season. Malik Jackson and Tashaun Gipson left in free agency and Telvin Smith seems to be sitting this season out for personal reasons.
All of those will be tough losses, but rookie Josh Allen could be a huge new piece to this defense and could help to ease those losses.
Although those losses seem substantial, they should still have a solid pass rush, two legit number one cornerbacks in A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey, and an offense who should take a little more pressure of them this season. A better fantasy finish this season than last season’s 14th seems like a sure thing even with the losses this offseason.
Jacksonville is more of a risk than the rest of the top five teams on this list, but they could be the highest reward as well. Despite the risk, as mentioned with the Rams, the Jaguars D/ST likely won’t make it past the first few picks of the 14th round, so if you aren’t one of those picks you might consider taking them in the 13th round.
