FANTASY FOOTBALL DEFENSES/SPECIAL TEAMS TO TARGET

Number 4 – Los Angeles Chargers

2018 Fantasy Points Ranking: Tied-14th

2018 Points Allowed Ranking: 8th

If you were counting, this is the third AFC West team on the list, so that just shows the level of competition the Chiefs’ offense will have to face this year. While the Broncos are a solid defensive team, the Chargers defense is particularly scary.

If Joey Bosa is healthy, he and Melvin Ingram combine to be a very good pass rush and the addition of rookie Jerry Tillery could make that an even scarier pass rush. As good as the pass rush is, it may not even be the best part about the defense.

Rookie safety Derwin James inserted himself into the conversation of the top safeties in the NFL in his first year in the league earning an All-Pro nod. Then this summer the Chargers drafted who many considered the top safety in the draft, Nasir Adderley. This could quickly become the best safety duo in the NFL.

With the potential for sacks up front, turnovers in the secondary, allowing the eighth fewest points in the NFL last season, and adding great defensive pieces through the draft, four is probably the Chargers floor. This would be an excellent fantasy option in 2019 and should still be available in the 14th round in standard 15-round fantasy drafts.
