Kansas City Chiefs: Offensive player stat predictions for 2019 season
By Kole Berrey
Group 2: Wide Receivers
Starter #1: Tyreek Hill
Projected Stat Line: 80 receptions, 1,424 yards, 12 receiving touchdowns
This stat line should look familiar. That is because it is almost identical to what Tyreek Hill put up last year. How I arrived at these numbers was I took Hill’s averages, and then projected them onto the 9 game stretch at which Sammy Watkins was healthy and starting (because I am assuming a healthy Watkins season here).
It is very interesting that Hill’s numbers took almost no hit from Watkins no longer being on the field. We will examine later what Watkins numbers did for Travis Kelce, but for now, we can expect Hill to put on another show in 2019.
Starter #2: Sammy Watkins
Projected Stat Line: 77 receptions, 1,030 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns
In this exercise, I decided to go in with the mindset that the players would be playing full 16 game seasons. I know that is wishful thinking, especially with Sammy Watkins’ injury history, but I am already guessing enough at certain things without trying to account for injury.
With that out of the way, this is what a full season out of Watkins would look like in a Chiefs uniform.
Some of you are probably thinking that this may be too much production from a wide receiver duo. After all, Travis Kelce has to eat too, right? Well I say look no further than the star tandem of Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster last year.
They combined for a whopping 2,723 yards last year, and added in 22 touchdowns. That is right around what I have the Chiefs two stars producing at. This team should be fun to watch next year.
