The KC Chiefs face numerous teams with excellent pass rushing attacks in 2019. Five in particular could give third-year quarterback, and the league’s reigning MVP, Patrick Mahomes fits.

In 2019, the Kansas City Chiefs don’t have an easy schedule. That comes with winning the division and being pitted against the other top teams in the conference. As Shakespeare once penned, “Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.” Little did Billy know that sometimes that crowned head would be chased around a field by freakishly fast 300-pound men.

Patrick Mahomes wears a crown in more ways than one.

Last year he put up historic numbers along the way to winning the Most Valuable Player award. In the process, he reinvigorated a rabid fan base as he led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record, a third straight AFC West title, and an appearance in the AFC Championship game in which the team barely fell to the New England Patriots, the eventual victors in the Super Bowl.

It goes without saying that Chiefs opponents will be gunning for them in 2019. Pass rushers will especially be aiming to knock down Mahomes. In 2018, Mahomes’ first season as a starting quarterback, he was sacked 26 times, which ranked 22nd in the league. Among quarterbacks who started all 16 games, that was the third least amount of sacks taken, behind only veterans Ben Roethlisberger (24) and Tom Brady (21).

Will that remain the case in 2019? Will the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line, which has gone through some minor changes, be able to keep upright the young gunslinger? Or will certain pass rushes get to Mahomes more often in his second year as a starter?

Here are the five most dangerous pass rushing units that Mahomes and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs will encounter in 2019. How well the team deals with these attacks will go a long way in answering what type of season the Chiefs put together.
