RANKING AFC WEST BACKUP QUARTERBACK SITUATIONS

NUMBER 3 – KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

KC Chiefs fans will probably disagree here, but when looking at all of the quarterback depth charts in the AFC West, they have the second to worst situation. It’s not BAD by any means, just not as favorable as the Broncos or Chargers.

For one, if Patrick Mahomes goes down (knock on wood please), that could very easily sink the entire season for the Chiefs. He won the MVP last year and carried the team on his back most of the time. So if Chiefs fans have to see Chad Henne or any other quarterback come in and take snaps, it’s not a good sign (unless it’s due to a lopsided score).

As mentioned on the opening slide, Henne is probably going to wind up being the QB2 in Kansas City behind Mahomes. Chase Litton has a shot at winning the job, but he’ll have to be pretty amazing during the preseason in order to steal that spot from Henne.

Henne isn’t a bad backup, but he hasn’t started a game since 2014 and in the past three years he’s appeared in just four games. He has experience as a starter and as a backup in the NFL, so that aspect is working in his favor, but if Mahomes were to miss several games, the Chiefs would be in deep trouble.
