TIER 1: CONTENDERS

2. Indianapolis Colts

Folks, trust me. The Colts are talented, well coached, well managed, and a legitimate Super Bowl contender next year. They were a team that made the playoffs last year, but appear to be revamped and ready to go deeper this year.

In the offseason the Colts had $100 million in cap space, and chose to re-sign most of their players instead of making giant splashes in free agency. After that, they took advantage of the second wave of free agency in signing Devin Funchess and Justin Houston. Both should start for the team next year.

Houston obviously is a familiar face and even though the Chiefs released him, it doesn’t mean he is done playing quality football. Houston had nine sacks in 12 games last year, and is a valuable veteran addition on the Colts defense.

Another thing to love about the Colts is their youth. Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton are still the elder statesmen producing, but they also have second year guard Quenton Nelson as a star on that side of the ball. Nelson was an All-Pro in his rookie season. Another youthful addition is wide receiver Parris Cambell. Campbell is a burner who gives Luck a deep threat to target when Hilton is covered.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts added corner Rock Ya-Sin in the second round. Ya-Sin adds a potential lock down on corner on defense, and could become a star next to sophomore Darius Leonard. Leonard also earned All-Pro honors as a rookie last year.

The mix of amazing young players and established veterans is perfect in Indianapolis. Look for the Colts to make a ton of noise in 2019.
