Kansas City Chiefs: Ranking every opponent on 2019 schedule
By Kole Berrey
Tier 1: Contenders
4. Chicago Bears
The Bears are a team that I have some questions about. Is Mitchell Trubisky the real deal? Can the defense stay dominant? Is there a true number one wide receiver on offense?
As I saw the Vikings as a potential team that could move up, the Bears could be viewed as a team that could take a step back. Regardless, their defense is going to be good. Their floor is very high, so even if they can’t sustain the level of play they were at last year, they will keep the Bears in games.
Khalil Mack is an absolute force. Ditto for underrated Akiem Hicks. Eddie Jackson also is a fledgling star, giving this team players all over the field. The Bears defense will be formidable next year, that much is sure.
Most of my questions lay in the offense, more specifically with Trubisky. Even if Trubisky isn’t elite, his dual threat nature can be scary, and he has shown he can throw dazzlingly well when he is dialed in.
Tariq Cohen is a solid weapon to have, and Matt Nagy is good at masking his team’s deficiencies with play calling and play design. There’s no high quality receiving threat, however, and that will limit this offense.
The Bears are a fun team to follow in 2019, and based off their performance last year, I respect them too much to drop them lower than fourth in these rankings.
