MOST DISAPPOINTING ROYALS

NUMBER 2 – RYAN O’HEARN

After losing Eric Hosmer to the Padres prior to the 2018 season, the Royals weren’t real sure who their next first baseman was going to be last year. Ryan O’Hearn emerged from the shadows and impressed as a rookie, batting .262 with 12 home runs in 149 at bats.

The hope was that O’Hearn could fill the void at first base for a few years while Nick Pratto developed in the minor leagues. Unfortunately, O’Hearn was optioned to Triple-A in mid June after slashing a mere .188/.286/.333 in 186 at bats.

While many anticipated O’Hearn’s numbers to dip a bit due to opposing teams having more film on him, he was very disappointing in year two at the helm. While the first baseman should get called up again in September, the fact that he didn’t contribute as heavily as the Royals were expecting makes him an easy option to put on this list.
