2013 MLB DRAFT

This one isn’t all that fair, as a lot of teams passed on Cody Bellinger, who is starting in the National League outfield. Bellinger was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round (124th overall) and he’s gone on to become one of the best players in all of baseball.

The Royals took three guys prior to Bellinger coming off the board: Hunter Dozier (eighth overall), Sean Manaea (34th overall), and Cody Reed (46th overall). Only Dozier is still with the team and until this year, it looked as though he was going to be a bust. He’s shaken that label off obviously, as he contended to be a starter in the All-Star Game this year.

Manaea was traded to Oakland in 2015 during that epic run while Reed was one of the three pitchers flipped to Cincinnati during the same season. The Royals could have used the pitching years later, but those trades ended up working out just fine for the boys in blue.

As for Bellinger, it’s crazy that he wasn’t drafted until the fourth round. He’s a lot of fun to watch and has played a huge role in the Dodgers getting to back-to-back World Series.

Because of how many other teams passed on him, this entry isn’t all that painful. Though it would have been cool having Bellinger in a Royals uniform for several seasons.
