2010 MLB DRAFT

When the Royals selected Christian Colon with the fourth overall pick of the 2010 MLB Draft, it was a bit of a head scratcher. It appeared that Colon would never be anything more than a utility man and that ended up being the case.

Nineteen picks after the Royals took Colon, another guy named Christian was taken: Christian Yelich out of Westlake High School in California. Yelich was drafted by the Marlins, but of course we all know him for his recent dominance with the Brewers.

While Royals fans will argue that Colon was part of two of the greatest moments in franchise history, he didn’t do much aside from that. He was a career .263 hitter while slugging one home run in 316 at bats throughout the course of three and a half seasons.

Yelich, on the other hand, is coming off winning the MVP award last season for the National League. On top of that, he’s a two-time Silver Slugger winner, a Gold Glove recipient, and also won the Batting Title last year for hitting .326 on the season.

The Marlins traded Yelich for whatever reason and the Brewers are absolutely getting his best years. It’d have been cool if the Royals could have had him during those 2014 and 2015 seasons, but at least Colon came up with some pretty clutch hits, making this missed pick a little less painful.
