It has not exactly been the best season for the Kansas City Royals, as they sit 27-52 going into Wednesday night’s game. However, one of the bright spots in this bleak rebuilding season has been the explosion of third baseman Hunter Dozier.

In the first year of new All-Star voting rules where the top three vote-getters advance to a final round of voting, Hunter Dozier, the 27-year-old former first-round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals in 2013, was the lone representation from KC to make it the penultimate stage of voting, taking place from June 26th-27th.

It won’t be an easy path to the Mid-Summer classic in Cleveland (yeah, what a destination place!), as Dozier placed third in the initial rounds of All-Star voting. He finished with 746,742 votes, according to MLB.com, almost 1.5 million behind the current favorite, Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros.

However, that has not stopped the Royals organization from going all-in behind Dozier, as they have made “Doz” the priority in their latest marketing campaign, as evidenced by their Twitter profile below:

So the Royals are behind their breakout third baseman and considering he’s a fan favorite wherever he goes (seriously, he’s like Alex Gordon 2.0…or 1.5 at the very least), I am sure the Kansas City faithful will come to rally behind what could be the lone Royals representative in the All-Star game, as they have done with other Royals in All-Star elections past. Though I’m hoping the latest voter turnout from the KC Mayoral election is not an indicator…not good Jackson County folks!

However, how serious a candidate is Dozier? Does he have a legitimate shot against Bregman or  second-place finalist Gio Urshela of the New York Yankees, who’s having a breakout season of his own in 2019?

Let’s take a look at the numbers and see where Dozier stacks in this race.
